Citizen videos from Cairo on Sunday and earlier today help paint a picture of the violence at a pro-Morsi vigil in which dozens were killed. We’re curating them on our ongoing Watching Egypt playlist. Videos from July 7th and 8th so far have documented the march toward the Republican Guard headquarters, men taking cover behind barricades and – as can be seen below – a rooftop sniper and injured protestors being carried away:

Two weeks ago we shared a video that had emerged from Bahrain showing a reportedly forced confession by a youth in police custody there. Last week, two Bahraini police officers were acquitted of torturing six doctors during the 2011 uprising. The verdict follows circulation of the aforementioned video.

Our in-depth playlist includes this and several other videos of testimony from former detainees about the physical, psychological, and sexual torture they endured. The issue is especially relevant today, as we are hearing reports of a crackdown by Bahraini authorities in the last three days, including teargas and the raid of dozens of homes.

In this video interview with Said Yousif Al-Muhafdha of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, he describes why torture is perhaps the number one issue in the country at the moment:

We also continue to track videos which appear to add to other evidence suggesting the use of chemical weapons by Assad’s forces in Syria in the fierce battle over Homs. This video shows a young men treated for what appear to be facial burn wounds consistent with chemical weapons:
