I marked the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights here in Mexico City, at the conference International Forum on Archives and Human Rights. One of the people I met is Robin Kirk, Director of the Duke University Human Rights Center, whose blog from the conference is here. I’ll write some thoughts of my own later. For now, suffice it to say that within both countries and institutions there continue to be profound impediments and challenges to archival work which focuses on human rights; at the same time is some truly dynamic and important work being done address these challenges.
The feedback, comments, and videos generated by the WITNESS campaign “What image opened your eyes to human rights?” have been really inspiring; besides the Hub, the video and responses are posted on YouTube, Alternet, and Human Rights Digest.
