After celebrating the recent passage of New York’s Marriage Equality Bill, I wanted to revisit some of the video advocacy efforts that supported the campaign. This PSA, produced by Human Rights Campaign, featured statements from New York celebrities and civilians, and garnered over 1 million views on YouTube.

ObscuraCam v1: A Mobile App for Visual Privacy
Last week we, along with our our friends and colleagues at the Guardian Project, released the first public beta app from the SecureSmartCam project. ObscuraCam, an Android camera phone application is the result of a 7 month long collaboration between WITNESS and The Guardian Project.

Threats Increase Against Monk Fighting Forced Evictions in Cambodia
Since 2009, our partner organization in Cambodia, LICADHO, has been using video to document forced evictions and land-grabbing. We met the Venerable Loun Sovath, a Buddhist monk, through our work with LICADHO. His tireless campaigning for those at risk of forced eviction in Cambodia, has repeatedly put him at risk.

Video From Yemen’s Demonstrators: A Call for Human Rights and Democracy
I had the opportunity to visit Yemen a few years ago as part of a WITNESS partner training and I heard first-hand from human rights activists and citizens how the government has failed to ensure basic human rights in the country. Issues included conditions ranging from a lack of freedom of expression and access to basic resources to systemic corruption and high unemployment.

Tomorrow, the French Presidency will host a meeting - the e-G8 Forum - focusing exclusively on shaping the agenda of the forthcoming G8 Summit around key global Internet policy issues. This will be the first time that the Internet's role in society and the economy is explicitly on the G8 agenda.

The Flip and Kodak Zi8 – A Good-bye To Our Favorite Pocket Camcorders
Last week we found out that the two pocket camcorders most used by WITNESS and our partners, the Flip and Kodak Zi8 (the Zi8), have been discontinued. First, blow-out sales prompted us to notice that the Zi8 is officially discontinued. Then, Cisco announced that the entire Flip company will be closed. As we say good-bye, here is a look back on how we used these successful products in our work, some alternative models we considered and the features we like and hope to see in future models.
