Video Advocacy Example: Bullying, Social Media & Suicide
Teen suicide in the United States has been on the rise. One cause is that teenagers have been increasingly bullied in school and through the use of social media. There are so many ways kids can post what is going in in their lives, whether it is via Twitter, Facebook, Google +, or a YouTube video.

Video Advocacy Example: Commercial or Advocacy Video for Marriage Equality?
This video is a good example of the blur between corporate advertising and video advocacy. The content and presentation resembles an advocacy video for marriage equality, yet the intention of the video was to sell a product (a dating site created by fashion company Björn Borg). The message of advertisement is lost to most viewers, and fails as an advertisement.

Video Advocacy Example: American Muslims Use Video to Help Shift Public Perception
With the online film and social media project “My Fellow American” - Americans are encouraged to pledge and spread awareness that Muslims are our fellow Americans. They have developed a productive and interactive way to engage society in identifying American Muslims in their communities and to discuss their important roles as part of the community.

Video Advocacy Example: In Syria, Exposing Official Lies Through YouTube
Last week, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that over 2600 people have died as a consequence of repression of protests in Syria. The Syrian government claims that far fewer have died, and that the balance is split between government forces and armed protestors.

Video Advocacy Example: ‘Yo Me Declaro’ Campaign for Human Rights Defenders
In the human rights world we often talk about HRDs or 'human rights defenders' - but this is more than just an an acronym or a piece of jargon. Human rights defenders of every type play a key role in protecting, promoting and upholding the human rights of all of us. And they're not just the people who work in NGOs like WITNESS or our partners.

Video Advocacy Example: Yale E360’s Video Makes a Powerful Statement on Water-Based Conflicts in East Africa
For most, the words “climate change” and “forced migration” are likely to conjure images of tsunami evacuations and FEMA trailers. These images have saturated the mass media and, as a result, remain fixed in our moral psyche.

Video From Yemen’s Demonstrators: A Call for Human Rights and Democracy
I had the opportunity to visit Yemen a few years ago as part of a WITNESS partner training and I heard first-hand from human rights activists and citizens how the government has failed to ensure basic human rights in the country. Issues included conditions ranging from a lack of freedom of expression and access to basic resources to systemic corruption and high unemployment.

Breakthrough’s Video Contest About Diversity in the U.S.
To kick off 2011, I thought it would be useful to highlight a video for change project in process and to hear from its producers about the planning for, organization, and outreach of the project, in this case a contest, and what they hope to accomplish with it.

A Look Back at a (half) Year in Video For Change
You may recall that in mid-May we launched this blog. It's been just over six months now and I thought it would be useful to take stock of what we've accomplished since May and, of course, to look forward to what we hope to do in 2011 - with you.
